Join us in the courtyard of Tinkertown Museum for a conversation and reading with poets Alicia Elkort and Elizabeth Cohen.

Alicia Elkort returned to New Mexico, the place of her birth, in 2020, after working for many years in the entertainment biz, in finance. Her first book, “A Map of Every Undoing” won the 2022 George Mason University Stillhouse Press Award. Her chapbook “Disturb the Bones,” was published in 2025 with Dancing Girl Press. Her third book of poetry, “Bitterroot,” published in 2026, won the Two Sylvias Press Wilder Book Prize. Alicia’s poetry has been nominated several times for the Pushcart, Best of the Net, and the Orison Anthology, and her work appears in numerous journals and anthologies. To return the favor, she reads for Tinderbox Poetry Journal where she also writes reviews. Elizabeth Cohen holds an MFA in poetry from Columbia University. She is former editor of Saranac Review and professor of English at SUNY Plattsburgh. The the author of ten books, including the memoir The Family on Beartown Road, a collection of short stories, The Hypothetical Girl, Cohen is also co-author with Dr. Lori Arviso Alvord of The Scalpel and the Silver Bear, a collection of medical essays. She has published seven books of poetry, most recently Mermaids of Albuquerque (Saint Julian Press). She works today as editorial director of Mnemosyne Books, a women’s memoir press.
