When Ross Ward began to build the walls of Tinkertown Museum, neighbors reached out to see how they might help. “Save your empties,” Ross said. It was a rare morning he did not wake to find grocery bags filled with bottles left on the doorstep. Other contributions followed: artifacts, memorabilia, antiques, and building materials. Ross returned the favors, gifting pencils, paint and markers to curious kids, donating materials and funds to other artist-built environments, and encouraging friends and strangers alike to pursue their own creative dreams. He’d often pull a ballpoint from his pocket and hand it over with a smile and some succinct advice: “Put this pen on the page and just keep your hand moving.”
